What this is

Specification and build.

The CDS is a clear PVC geodesic dome on a galvanized steel frame. Because the cover is transparent rather than tinted or opaque, the interior runs warmer than the air outside whenever the sun is on it, which is what makes the same shell work for a winter events terrace, a year round growing house and a backyard room that stays usable through cold months.

Twenty one sizes are built, from a 13 ft. dome of 136 sq. ft. up to a 164 ft. dome of 21,125 sq. ft. The frequency in the model name refers to how finely the geodesic frame is subdivided: higher frequency means more struts, a rounder shell and a longer clear span, which is why the largest domes are all 8V.

Doors are glass in a steel frame. Windows are glass on hydraulic arms, with fiberglass screen vents built into the shell so the dome can be aired out without letting insects in. The base is anchored and reinforced. Power and water can run off solar or a generator, or tie into existing service on site.

Do I need a permit?

Often, and the threshold varies by county. Structures over roughly 200 square feet, or anything with plumbing or permanent power, generally require review. We supply engineering drawings and load calculations for your submission.

What does the base need?

A level, compacted pad with anchor points. Concrete, timber deck and screw piles are all used. The anchor pattern is in the drawings and depends on the model and your local wind load.
